Did you know that today was the Islamic (Hijjri) New Year? I'm asking anybody who is Muslim - or anybody who lives in Kuwait for that matter.. Or even if you're non-Muslim and live out of Kuwait!
I'm embarassed to say that I just remembered that today was our (Muslim) New Year. I'm so ashamed I don't know about it, but I do know about other important global dates and historic dates of other countries. I know when France's independence day is, but I don't know when the Islamic New Year is.
It doesn't help that the Hijjri Calendar is based on the lunar system. Which means that the date changes (moves forward) every year. And it doesn't help that the media over here focuses so much on the Gregorian New Year (January 1st), and celebrates it on T.V's, radios, and everything else, but there's barely a mention of the Hijjri New Year.
Oh well, God willing, next year I'll remember it.
This lady wishes you all a great weekend and a very happy new year :)

Maal Hijra wishes to everyone. Let peace and blessings of Allah be with you and all.
Be Blessed
And too bad most people don't know when or practice Father's Day here in the East and the West.
Merry New Islamic (Lunar) Year.
Happy New Year to you too!
Happy new year!
Well, it makes sense that we celebrate the new year on jan 1, becuz we live by that calander and not the Islamic one, except for the religious occasions like Ramadan, 7aj, 3eid, and such.
It's against Islam to celebrate the Hijri new year.
sij wallah? I never knew that. I don't think so. because we do celebrate the Eid days. So why not this one?
Happy new year to you too! :)
Wish you a very happy New year !
You answered yourself, because they are the Eid days. Only the two Eids are recognized as days of celebration. Aslan KSA don't have the day off as far as I know.
kel 3am o enty eb khair as well! The long weekend was GREAT! Hope it was great for you too.
Salaam,
You're right, it's we're not suppose to celebrate this date. It was around this time that the grandson of Prophet, Al-Husain, was slaughtered along with his 6 month old baby. Google, "Tragedy of Karbala" for more details.
